CAPTURING MORE THAN THE COMPETITION

A golf event can create much more content for a club than simply photographs of players hitting shots.

During Elgin Golf Club’s Senior 3 Day Open, the aim was to capture a broader picture of the day — starting with aerial course imagery in the morning, moving into player photography once the competition was underway, and finishing with some of the atmosphere inside the clubhouse after the round.

That combination gives the club a much more useful library of content, covering the course itself, the competition and the social side of the event.

For an ongoing content arrangement, visits like this can help build up a wider visual record of the club throughout the season rather than relying on separate shoots for each type of imagery.

STARTING WITH THE COURSE FROM THE AIR

Beginning the visit early made it possible to capture aerial content before the course became busy with players.

Drone photography and video can show the layout of a golf course in a way that ground-level imagery cannot, giving the club wider views of individual holes, course features and the surrounding landscape.

At Elgin, that early start created an opportunity to build fresh aerial content before moving into the competition itself later in the morning.

Combining this with the event coverage meant the club could come away from one visit with a much broader mix of material for social media, website updates and future promotion.

CAPTURING THE FULL EVENT EXPERIENCE

Once the Senior 3 Day Open was underway, the focus shifted from the course itself to the players and the atmosphere around the competition.

The photography included tee shots, approaches, putting, group moments and more natural interactions throughout the round, creating a broader record of the event rather than simply documenting swings.

Coverage also continued into the clubhouse, where players could be photographed relaxing and enjoying a drink after their round. Those images help show another important side of the club — the social experience that surrounds the golf itself.

For an ongoing content arrangement, that variety is particularly valuable. One visit can create course imagery, event photography, member and visitor content, and clubhouse material that can all be used differently throughout the season.
