A SUMMER SOLSTICE EVENT AT SPEY BAY
The Summer Solstice event at Spey Bay was about much more than simply playing a round of golf.
The day brought together golf, competition and a range of activities around the club, creating a relaxed event with plenty happening both on and off the course.
Alongside the golf, players took part in clay pigeon shooting and a putting competition on the club’s Himalayas-style green, giving the event a very different character from a traditional golf weekend.
From a photography perspective, that variety made it possible to capture the full atmosphere of the event — not only the golf itself, but the people, activities and smaller moments that helped define the event.
MORE THAN A ROUND OF GOLF
What made the Summer Solstice event at Spey Bay particularly enjoyable to photograph was the variety throughout the day.
Alongside the golf itself, the clay pigeon shooting and putting competition created completely different moments, expressions and interactions to capture. That gave the final set of images much more range than a traditional tournament or golf day.
It also helped show the event as a wider social experience rather than simply a competition. Photographs of players taking part in the different activities, talking between events and enjoying the atmosphere around the club all help tell a more complete story of the day.
For clubs planning events, that variety can also make the resulting content more useful afterwards — providing imagery for social media, future event promotion, sponsorship, websites and wider club marketing.
CAPTURING THE ATMOSPHERE OF THE WHOLE EVENT
Good event photography is not only about recording the main competition. It is about capturing the people, reactions and smaller moments that give the event its character.
At Spey Bay, that meant moving between the golf course, clay pigeon shooting, putting competition and activity around the clubhouse, looking for both the key moments and the more natural interactions in between.
Bringing all of those elements together creates a much stronger record of the event and gives the club a varied collection of images that can be used long after the weekend itself.
